AI creates reality
The Austrian Federal Economic Chamber's EDAY 2025 was all about technological change, especially in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Exciting keynote speeches and specialist presentations were dedicated to the topic. I particularly enjoyed the exchange with ‘Sciencebuster’ Martin Moder.
What key learnings did I take away for myself?
📍The development of AI systems (especially large language models, LLMs) is happening at an incredible speed. Every four months, we see a doubling of computing power and functional depth.
📍The public discourse on AI – especially in Austria – cannot keep pace with the speed of technological change. The train is already travelling at high speed
📍Emerging economies in particular are using AI on a large scale to gain competitive advantages in the international market. Conversely, this means that Western industrialised countries, and the EU in particular, can no longer choose whether or not to engage with AI.
📍Rather, it is a choice between actively shaping the processes of change through AI or being overtaken by reality.
My personal summary:
👉 The challenges posed by AI are undoubtedly great, and the fragile global political situation with unpredictable players, particularly in Washington, Moscow and Beijing, is causing uncertainty. Added to this is the power of US tech companies in particular, which are rolling out their business models without regard for the legitimate interests of third parties.
👉 But I still think we should see this biggest disruption since the invention of the internet as an opportunity. It requires curiosity, openness to technological innovation and creativity, as well as critical questioning.
📢 How are you and your company dealing with AI? What specific applications are there? You'll find out soon on this blog. Stay tuned!
